A cramp in a calf forced Falcons starting centre Geordie Edwards off the court and onto the bench during the last four minutes of the fourth quarter. Cameryn Griffiths, a rookie junior, subbed in for Edwards. “On the first play that he was in, Griffiths stole the ball and made a breakaway layup (shot),” said Stoqua. “He also had several other key defensive plays in overtime.” Falcons Johnny Fidaoui and Edwards were the top scorers for SFX while Sam Les- sard led the team in rebounds.

HAMMOND | The Falcons proved for the third year in a row they are the best of the best on the basketball court in Prescott- Russell. Saint Francis Xavier Catholic High School hosted the Prescott-Russell High School Se- nior Boys Basketball Championships Feb. 12. The SFX Falcons took flight in the af- ternoon final for a rematch against the St. Thomas Aquinas Ravens from Russell. The Falcons brought down the Ravens 47-39 in overtime play, marking the third straight PR title win for St. Francis Xavier in senior boys basketball, and the second con- secutive undefeated season of regulation play for the Falcons. “It is really big for our school,” said Coach Scott Stoqua. The Falcons had a two-point on the Ra- vens in the final quarter of regular play with less than one minute on the scoreboard clock. The Ravens managed a single basket Team Frosty backs a future Olympian ORLÉANS | He’s hoping to“ice” the compe- tition some day for Canada in the Winter Olympics. Kevin Frost already has his own very vocal fans cheering him on and work- ing hard to help support his dream. The Orléans athlete is a speed skater al- ready involved in worldwide competition. The challenge for him is that he is legally deaf and blind. As far as the half dozen members of Team Frosty are concerned, he is already a hero. Grade 7 students Carline Lemaire, Karina Nemec, Trinity Castilloux, Alexia Leblanc, Isabelle Boileau, and Émilie Lemaire raised $1382 during a Team Frosty server night fundraiser at their neighbourhood Boston Pizza. Now Cumberland Ward Coun. Ste- phen Blais is getting on the bandwagon with a $1000 contribution from his annual Stephen Blais Golf Classic with the help of private donors and presented to Frost on behalf of Action Orléans, a not-for-profit club that assists sports and other causes in the City of Ottawa area. “Kevin Frost is truly an inspiration to all us and I am proud to help offset any costs of his competition,” said Coun. Blais. “I am also in awe of Team Frosty – the six grade seven students who inspired me to donate. They are all role models themselves.” “The support by Councillor Blais andTeam Frosty is truly heartwarming”, said Frost. “It is very encouraging to live in such a won- derful community where altruism is shared by students and politicians alike.” Frost has Usher’s Syndrome Type 2, which causes early hearing loss and attacks the visual system. He has 15 per cent of his hearing and eight per cent tunnel vision. He competes in speed skating at the in- ternational level and his goal is to be the first deaf-and-blind speed skater to win an Olympic medal.
