Tony's Open Chain Impact Report 2024/25

GOVERNANCE & FINANCES

GOVERNANCE Tony’s Open Chain is managed by a dedicated team overseeing all operations, from applying the 5 Sourcing Principles to engaging Mission Allies, partner cooperatives, and industry stakeholders. As a full subsidiary of Tony’s Chocolonely, Tony’s Open Chain is bound by the Mission Lock: a legal safeguard that permanently secures the company’s mission to end exploitation in the cocoa industry. 93 Three independent Mission Guardians, experts in social impact and sustainability, oversee this Mission Lock. The Tony’s Chocolonely mission and 5 Sourcing Principles, documented in the Tony’s Articles of Association, cannot be amended without the Mission Guardians’ approval. Thereby effectively locking Tony’s, and Tony’s Open Chain’s impact as long as the company exists.

Expanding Mission Allies’ Engagement in Tony’s Open Chain Governance Mission Allies actively participate in Tony’s Open Chain governance through the Sounding Board, which was launched this year. The Sounding Board provides a platform for Mission Allies to advise on governance, strategy and operational priorities. It ran for the 2024/25 season and will continue into 2025/26, following which a decision will be made on the constellation, engagement structures and workings of a more formal Advisory Committee. Six Mission Ally representatives constitute the Sounding Board, with IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) supporting as an independent observer. Drawing on its extensive sector expertise, IDH provides recommendations that will shape an Advisory Committee in the future.

THIS YEAR, THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUNDING BOARD INCLUDED: • Cappi Wefers Bettink, Impact Manager at Johnny Cashew • Chloe Rotureau, Raw Material Sourcing specialist at Waitrose • Chris Oskam, Head of Sustainability at Tony’s Chocolonely • Jeroen Hirdes, Director Sourcing Houdbaar Indulgence at Albert Heijn • Karen Janssens, Sustainable Sourcing at Colruyt Group • Shannon Eagle, Director of Procurement & Sourcing at Feastables
