This KPI measures the total number of cocoa-growing farmers who delivered cocoa beans to Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies at least once during the relevant cocoa season (1 October 2024 - 30 September 2025), based on farmer delivery records in BeanTracker. Cocoa-growing farmers in scope for this KPI are cocoa farmers who are members of the Tony’s Open Chain partner cooperatives, with a relevant cooperative ID in place. This KPI measures the total number of cocoa growing farmers that were reached by Tony’s Open Chain programmes in the cocoa season in scope for reporting. This includes farmers that did not deliver cocoa to Tony’s Open Chain in the season, but did benefit from programmes, including coverage under the CLMRS, deforestation remediation support, or other programmes defined per season. This KPI refers to the number of partner cooperatives with whom Tony's Open Chain has a signed, valid partnership agreement in place during the cocoa season in scope for reporting (1 October 2024 – 30 September 2025), including: 1. Initial Collaboration Agreement: Cooperatives in the first phase of their partnership with Tony’s Open Chain that are establishing the foundational processes required to enable operational traceability, supported by start-up funding from Tony’s Open Chain. This phase includes 6 months of pre-season onboarding and the first 12-month cocoa season. 2. First 5-Year MoU: Cooperatives that have entered into a 5-year Memorandum of Understanding with Tony’s Open Chain and that are implementing progressively more advanced programmes and integrating them into their operating structure with the cooperative management fee. 3. Second 5-Year MoU and onwards: Cooperatives that have been in a partnership with Tony’s Open Chain for more than 5 years, that are implementing advanced programmes on data safeguarding, human rights, and environment to raise the bar together with Tony’s Open Chain. Tony’s Open Chain aims to work with farmers for a minimum of 5 years, reflecting long-term commitments (1 of the 5 Sourcing Principles). When cocoa farmers know they are going to receive the premium that is embedded in the higher price principle, they can make medium and long-term investments in their farms. Examples include investing in education for their children and in improving productivity in their farms. Changes to the KPI definition or methodology compared to previous years: Formerly KPI 5 documented the "# of partner cooperatives with whom Tony’s Open Chain has committed to a 5-Year MoU". This KPI has been expanded to enable more nuanced reporting on the different types of partnership agreements, not just those with a 5-Year MoU, but also those in their Initial Collaboration Agreement and Second 5-year MoU or beyond. This KPI refers to the total amount of cooperative management fees paid (in EUR) by Mission Allies via Tony’s Open Chain to partner cooperatives in the cocoa season in scope for reporting (1 October 2024 – 30 September 2025). Cooperative management fees: Tony’s Open Chain partner cooperatives carry out three core programmes – Traceability, Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS) and Productivity. Tony’'s Open Chain covers installation costs during the installation phase. After the installation phase, the partner cooperative covers the ongoing costs of implementing these programmes (e.g., salaries, taxes, insurance, fuel, equipment maintenance) with the cooperative management fee. This fee is paid based on cocoa volume delivered (fee per metric ton). The specific amounts paid vary slightly every year and per main/mid-crop season.
