b.Total amount of cooperative management fees paid to partner cooperatives by Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies cumulatively since the start of Tony's Open Chain
New
This KPI refers to the total amount of cooperative management fees paid to partner cooperatives by Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies cumulatively since the start of Tony’s Open Chain. This KPI is calculated by multiplying the cooperative management fee for the relevant year (in EUR) by the total volume of cocoa sourced that year (in metric tons). The cooperative management fee was introduced in the 2020/21 cocoa season. Tracking, therefore, began from this date.
See KPI 1.4a for the definition of cooperative management fees.
1.5 Total # of Tonys Open Chain Mission Allies
Formerly KPI 16 (unchanged)
The total number of Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies is defined as all Mission Allies that have a signed and valid contract with Tony’s Open Chain on 30 September of the cocoa season in scope for reporting. Mission Allies are companies that have committed some or all of their cocoa requirements to be sourced via Tony’s Open Chain, guided by our 5 Sourcing Principles. This KPI refers to the total volume of metric tons of cocoa sourced by Mission Allies via Tony’s Open Chain according the 5 Sourcing Principles, in the relevant cocoa season (running from the 1 October – to the 30 September in the following year). This KPI refers to the total number of metric tons of cocoa ordered by Mission Allies to be sourced by Tony’s Open Chain for the upcoming cocoa season (i.e., the 1 October to 30 September of the cocoa season following the current reporting year). This is documented in Tony's Open Chain’s order book.

1.8 % of cocoa beans sourced that is traceable from farmer to processor
Formerly KPI 8.1 (revised) This KPI refers to the % of cocoa beans delivered for Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies to their processor and can be traced back to the farmers via Tony’s Open Chain partner cooperatives. Note that traceability/segregation-related processes after delivery to the processor are out of scope for this KPI.
Changes to the KPI definition or methodology compared to previous years: The wording of the KPI has been modified slightly from “% of cocoa beans that are delivered for Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies to their processor and is traceable to farmers via Tony’s Open Chain’s partner cooperatives” to “% of cocoa beans sourced traceable from farmer to processor”. The definition of this KPI remains the same, and the modification is therefore immaterial. The change in wording is for the purposes of clarity only. This KPI shows the split of cocoa beans sourced for the 2 Tony’s Open Chain bean processing models. Mission Allies can choose between two bean processing models: Bean-to-Brand and Bean-to-Machine. While the level of traceability remains 100% for both models up until the door of the processor, what happens at the processor level differs. • Bean-to-Machine: All cocoa beans remain 100% traceable and segregated from Tony’s Open Chain’s partner cooperatives up to the doorstep of the processor but are mixed with other beans during processing. When choosing this model, the Mission Ally’s sourced Tony’s Open Chain bean volume must match (or exceed) the total cocoa volume that is needed for their Tony’s Open Chain products. Whilst this means that the final product might contain 0 Tony’s Open Chain cocoa beans, the Mission Ally has paid a full living income premium (or other premiums relevant to the applicable year) on the total volume of beans needed for their products (and often more), and the cocoa has been sourced in line with the 5 Sourcing Principles. • Bean-to-Brand: All cocoa beans are kept fully segregated throughout the entire supply chain: from our partner cooperatives all the way up to the end product. Products are processed in a segregated manner. This means that the specific Tony’s Open Chain beans sourced by a Mission Ally are also used in their final products.
1.9 % split of overall Tony’s Open Chain bean volume delivered that has gone / will go to Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies products per market model: a.% of beans delivered for Bean-to-Machine b. % of beans delivered for Bean-to-Brand
