Tony's Open Chain Impact Report 2024/25

2.3 Total # of child labour cases closed at Tony’s Open Chain partner cooperatives with the CLMRS a. In total in the season b. Per cooperative category

Formerly KPI 11.2 (revised) This KPI refers to the number of cases of child labour that were identified at cocoa-farming households that are members of Tony’s Open Chain’s partner cooperatives and were closed during the season in scope for reporting. Cases are defined as closed if (1) the child is no longer in child labour, confirmed by two consecutive visits with no child labour reported, (2) the child's family has left the partner cooperative, or (3) the child has turned 18 and therefore is no longer in the CLMRS.

Disaggregation per cooperative category includes a break-down based on longest-term partner cooperatives (referring to partner cooperatives in their 2 nd MoU or beyond), or newer partner cooperatives (referring to those in their Initial Collaboration Agreement or 1 st MoU). Changes to the KPI definition or methodology compared to previous years: The KPI has been expanded to include disaggregation by cooperative category. Child labour prevalence refers to the percentage of children (aged 5 -17) who are engaged in child labour across all Tony’s Open Chain partner cooperatives.

2.4 % prevalence of child labour across all partner

New Note: While we have been reporting on prevalence for several years, this year, it is included as a KPI for the first time.

Child labour prevalence refers to the percentage of children (aged between 5 -17) who are engaged in child labour. For this KPI, prevalence rates (and total number of child labour cases) are calculated based on 2 cooperative categories: longest-term partner cooperatives (referring to partner cooperatives in their 2 nd MoU or beyond), and newer partner cooperatives (referring to those in their Initial Collaboration Agreement or 1 st MoU). For definitions of cooperative categories, see KPI 1.3. This KPI refers to the total # and % of cocoa farmers who delivered cocoa to Tony’s Open Chain Mission Allies in the season in scope for reporting (as per KPI 1.1) and therefore received premium payments above the farmgate price for their cocoa. The relevant premium payments are specified in KPI 3.3. Note that, in the future, this KPI may be updated to reflect premiums paid to meet the Living Income Reference Price (LIRP) as set by Fairtrade. This is dependent on how the LIRP is reviewed and developed, as it currently falls below the farmgate price. Changes to the KPI definition or methodology compared to previous years: This KPI previously measured: “# of farmers supplying to Tony’s Open Chain who receive the LIRP premium”. The KPI has been revised on the basis that the LIRP fell below the farmgate price this year.
