Tony's Open Chain Impact Report 2024/25

The Cocoa Barometer’s view on the purchasing practices of major cocoa companies

The Cocoa Barometer maps the state of sustainability in the cocoa industry, of the sector as a whole, but also on country and company level. It is published every three years by a consortium of civil society actors from across the globe, and hosted by the VOICE network. It's seen as a key publication in the cocoa industry. Per the 2025 Cocoa Barometer, Tony’s Open Chain is currently the only industry player implementing all 3 of the key purchasing practices considered by VOICE Network as essential towards implementing a living income approach.

Good agricultural practices: The Cocoa Barometer calls for sustainable farming practices like pruning and soil management, supported by technical assistance and labour services. We enable this through coaching, input provision, and targeted farmer support. Read more here.

Cash transfers: The Cocoa Barometer stresses premiums and additional payments as vital for living income. Tony’s Open Chain enables cash transfers to all farmers via premiums paid on top of the farmgate price (such as the living income premium) and additional payments, such as the EPB in 2024/25. Read more here.

Price: The Cocoa Barometer urges consistent payment of the Living Income Reference Price. We are committed to paying a Living Income Reference Price, not just in some seasons, but in all seasons. Read more here.
