Our end goal: the systemic eradication of child labour While effective child labour monitoring and timely remediation of cases are essential to addressing our responsibility to children in our supply chain, eradicating child labour will only truly become a reality when the root causes of child labour, primarily poverty and a lack of infrastructure in affected communities, are addressed. Tony’s Open Chain is committed to supporting local partners to build an enabling environment where children have reliable access to education, and families can access quality healthcare and essential services, thereby addressing the root causes of child labour. We recognise that this will
require a long-term effort, which is why we are piloting new flexible funding options for larger-scale community development projects in 2025/26. Our revised approach marks a shift from annual projects (within a rolling 5-year community development strategy per cooperative), enabling partner cooperatives to identify multi-year projects with lasting impact. In the community where this approach is being piloted, the partner cooperative identified the construction of a health compound as a key priority for the coming years. Developed through multi-stakeholder collaboration, this approach is designed to deliver sustainable improvements in access to essential services, laying the groundwork for safer, more resilient communities.
