Overmiller Gelbvieh & Red Angus - Annual Bull Sale [2/21/26]

Welcome to Overmiller Gelbvieh and Red Angus, Thank you for taking the time to look through the offering. To our past customers, we truly value your business and friendship. If you are new to our operation, then we would like to thank you for giving our breeding program and cattle a look. We take it seriously to produce the best product we can. This is a family operation with everyone from the 78 year old to the 8 year old helping. As you will notice the bulls are all older Age Advantaged this year. We have moved our calving back to make life easier for us and the cows can graze stalks longer. For you the buyer it means you are purchasing bulls that have been roughed out on grass and crop residue all winter, taken to grass in the summer to grow slowly and then brought in and fed in a 50 acre pasture once grass is grazed off in the fall. These older bulls are more mature and can breed more cows per year and actually need less grain to be sale ready than yearlings. You will notice some bulls have a Grass Gain Ratio in their foot notes. These are bulls that gained more pounds on grass. All bulls were weighed going to grass and coming off grass to try to identify cattle that can gain on grass and be able to turn grass into pounds. We have less open replacements this year due to moving our registered cows calving dates back. Rest assured what we have are as uniform and consistent as any we have offered and many are AI sired. The bred heifers are a top notch set with most carrying AI sired babies. We work just as hard to provide the best commercial females we can. A customer purchased some top notch red heifers last year and this gentlemen put them through rigourous testing and hoops and a few select ones just sold for $6500! Yes, that’s right that is per head. Congrats to them by adding great value for their hard work. Some bulls are carrying the Top Dollar logo. These bulls have met specific EPD’s set up by the Top Dollar company. Top Dollar sources and helps promote high quality feeder cattle that meet certain genetic EPD’s. If you have any questions be sure to contact Nate Smith listed below. Feel free to come look at the cattle pre-sale or call with any questions. We will be serving lunch before the sale and cattle will be penned sale day so come early and walk through them and enjoy the meal. The AGA has created new indexes with up to date USDA data and pricing. Use these as a tool alongside the Pheno- type, Actual Data and EPD’s you would normally use to make your selections. FPI - Feeder Profit Index: A terminal index where all progeny sired by the bull are sold as carcasses on a value- based grid. MPI - Maternal Profit Index: A bull produces crossbred calves with replacement heifers retained. The remaining calves will be sold at weaning. TPI - Total Profit Index: The combination index where the calves sired by this bull will have replacement heifers retained and the remaining calves are sold as carcasses on a value-based index. Gelbvieh influenced females dominate. According to data from MARC- Meat Animal Research Center, A Gelbvieh influenced female will give a 22.7 POUNDS boost at weaning due to their maternal superiortiy. No other Bos Tarus breed gave any maternal WW advantage. We have long known the Gelbvieh cow produced more pounds of calf weaned per cow exposed due to their advantage in fertility and maternal traits. Now we have data to prove that individually the Gelbvieh influenced cow produces 22.7 lbs of calf at weaning. Take that added weight times the current calf price and you can see the value of Gelbvieh females.
