MD NOTE: Known carriers in the sale are listed, and bulls that have potential for the defect but have not been tested are listed as MDP. DELAYED BLINDNESS (DB) NOTE: Another new genetic defect in Hereford cattle is DB. The defect comes from two carrier parents, with the offspring initially showing no apparent vision issues, but experiencing vision loss around 9-12 months. Affected cattle struggle with navigation and exhibit limited response to light stimuli. This is also a simple recessive gene, that can only be a problem if two carriers are mated together. This defect does not carry through to other breeds. Known carriers in the sale are listed, and the bulls that have potential for the defect but have not been tested are listed as DBP.
