Filing Fees
A filing fee is a non-refundable payment that must be paid to the elections official. Filing fees vary by office and are typically calculated based on a percentage of the office’s annual salary. Not all offices require filing fees; however, if a filing fee is required, then the filing fee must be paid at the time a candidate requests candidacy documents. In the case of candidates for Superior Court Judge, the filing fee must be paid at the time the Declaration of Intention form is filed. Local candidates can pay using cash, personal check, cashier’s check, money order, or credit card. The filing fee payment must be made out to the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters. Federal and State candidates can pay using a personal check, cashier’s check, or money order. The filing fee payment must be made out to the Secretary of State. Candidates give their payments to the Registrar of Voters, who will then forward them to the Secretary of State.
