Investing $6.1 million dollars in sewer upgrades and maintenance across the municipality Clarence-Rockland Council reviewed the budget presented by Mayor Zanth back in December and had an opportunity to amend the proposed budget if they chose to do so. Since no amendment was presented 30 days following the tabling of the 2026 budget, the budget is considered passed. « Je suis stupéfaite de voir à quel point ce groupe a pris de l’ampleur », a déclaré Mme Keays. « Je voulais simplement voir s’il y avait d’autres personnes qui partageaient le même sentiment et les mêmes réflexions sur les transports en commun dans notre ville. J’ai été très surprise de voir la réaction, et il semble que nous ayons du travail à faire. » Un sondage a également été créé, posant aux résidents des questions liées à l’utilisa- tion des transports en commun, aux besoins et à l’intérêt général pour les transports en commun dans la ville. Au moment de la publication, plus de 340 personnes avaient répondu au sondage, qui est toujours en cours. Mme Keays a déclaré qu’elle avait reçu une invitation ouverte à s’entretenir avec le maire de Clarence-Rockland, Mario Zanth, et qu’elle voulait s’assurer d’être bien préparée lorsque les discussions sur les transports publics auraient lieu avec le maire. &MMF

J’apprécie et je félicite ces résidents qui ont pris le temps de poser des questions et de se renseigner davantage sur ce sujet. »

Plusieurs résidents plaident en faveur du retour des transports en commun à Clarence-Rockland, invoquant la croissance démographique comme facteur majeur. The 2026 Clarence-Rockland budget has officially been adopted. Mayor Mario Zanth announced during the first council meeting of the new year that on Jan. 9, this year’s budget was passed. The budget process was a little dif- ferent this time around for the City of Clarence-Rockland. The Province of Ontario granted Strong Mayor Powers to several municipalities, including Clarence-Rockland. Ontario’s Strong Mayor Powers fundamentally change the budget process, making the mayor res- ponsible for proposing the annual budget, which Council can amend but the mayor can then veto, requiring a 2/3 council override. These powers extend to initiating in-year budget amendments and tie into provincial priorities like housing, giving mayors signi- ficant control over municipal spending and resource allocation. The 2026 budget includes a 4.98 per cent tax increase for residents, which works out to an increase of $11 per month on property tax bills.

Cette collaboration permet aux étudiants de comprendre directement et de s’immerger dans le cycle complet de la construction résidentielle moderne, de la charpente à l’intégration des systèmes, en passant par les finitions et l’inspection. Ce partenariat soutient également la mission plus large de SLC, qui consiste à former la prochaine génération de talents qualifiés au Canada et à promouvoir des solutions de logement rentables, évolutives et hors réseau. « Ces maisons achevées représentent plus qu’un simple projet de construction ; elles montrent ce qu’il est possible de réaliser lorsque l’éducation et l’industrie s’unissent dans un but commun », a déclaré Aaron Markel, PDG de SLC. « Les étudiants de La Cité ont construit des maisons qui seront habitées, présentées et utilisées dans de véritables communautés. Tout récemment, les étudiants du programme, lancé l’année dernière, ont achevé la construction de deux mini-maisons remorquables, ce qui constitue une étape importante pour l’école. Fondée en 2022, SLC conçoit et fabrique des solutions de logement rapides, mobiles et hors réseau, adaptées aux défis crois- sants du Canada en matière d’accessibilité au logement et d’infrastructures. The Alto high-speed rail project is one of the major infrastructure improvement projects for Canada, with the goal of sup- porting future industrial, commercial and some residential growth in Canada’s Golden Triangle region of Ottawa-Toronto-Montréal/ Québec City. It will help with the Carney federal govern- ment’s plans to support Canada’s steel, aluminum and other industries against the impact of tariffs that President Donald Trump has imposed on imports of these Canadian products into the U.S., and help make Canada more self-reliant and less dependent on the U.S. market for these products. Construction of the Ottawa-Montréal segment of the route is expected to begin in 2029. Rural municipalities that might be along the proposed route won’t have destination stop sites in their areas. Those communities would receive community benefits packages for any impact to those areas located on the rail line route alignment. The Rockland Nationals have now won 21 games in a row after defeating the Renfrew Wolves and the Nepean Raiders last weekend. Nats players who will be playing for the Yzerman Division in this year’s all- star game are Mathys Laurent, Nolan Turnbull, Noah Laframboise, Alex Kelloway, Vital Dinis, Mavrick Brunet and Gabriel Le Houillier. Nationals players taking the ice for this year’s prospects game are Gabriel Giroux and Kayden Newton. The CCHL’s all star and prospects are being held for the first time since the 2023-2024 season.

Several Rockland Nationals players have been named to the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) all star and prospects rosters, the league revealed last week. However, those players will have to wait a little longer to share the ice with some of the league’s brightest stars as the CCHL announced that the all-star and prospects games, which were originally scheduled to be played on Monday, Jan. 26 at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex
