CALVING-EASE RECOMMENDATIONS Calving ease at Haynes Cattle Co. is an important part of our operation. We run large numbers of cattle that must calve on their own. We’re known for cattle that calve easily, thus making it easy for the cow to do a good job mothering her calf. However, not all herds develop replacement females to the same extent, so some qualifying must be done when we recommend a bull for heifer use. Nearly every bull in this offering would be considered calving ease by industry standards. Meat Animal Research Center data suggests that a +5 BW EPD in the Angus breed would be considered a heifer bull in most breeds today. Any bull that carries a footnote for use on heifers has multiple generations of known calving-ease genetics, in addition to his DNA or Genomic profiles for calving ease. Those same bulls are recommended for cows with the reasoning that they also have the growth and carcass merit to work there as well.
