The PCS form may be obtained from a secondary school or from the College Scholarship Service, P.O. Box 176, Princeton, New Jersey, or P.O. Box 1025, Berkeley, California 94704. The word "package' ' has recently made its way into scholar ship programs. This word implies the use of grants or scholarships, loans and/or jobs to meet the need of a given student. Increas ingly the college is employing this approach to student aid. · The use of loans and campus jobs enables the Committee to spread available scholarship money over a larger number of cases and thus assist a greater number of deserving students. Scholarships Scholarships are awarded by the scholarship awards committee to students of high scholastic achievement. Such other criteria as character, personality, leadership qualities, financial need, marked success in general high school or college activities, special service rendered on behalf of the college, and evidence of ability to pursue advanced studies successfully after graduation are also given care ful consideration. Scholarship awards are made for a period of one year; they range in value from $150 to $950 per year. The types of scholarships offered are as follows: academic, athletic, English, missionary, music, service, and speech. In addition to those offered by the college, there are others through the generosity of donors. These include the Les Barnett, Jean Bernard, Albert Kelly, Loe, and George Mayr scholarships. Information regarding the college scholarship program and application blanks may be obtained through the office of the Dean of Students. Loans Biola College has certain revolving funds which are used for short-term student loans. A student may borrow up to $500 per year; the loan is interest-free, the only charge being a nominal service fee. In general, these are reserved for students whose needs are of a short duration, since all must be repaid in full before each fall semester begins. For those who need assistance over a longer period of time, funds are available through the National Defense Student Loan Program. These funds are available to entering freshmen and transfer students as well as to those already enrolled. United Stu dent A.id Funds, Inc. loans, ranging up to $1,000 per year, are available after the freshman year.
