ED U C A T I O N 321. ELEMENTARY METHODS AND CURRICULUM II. (5) Content and methods of teaching mathematics and social studies; audio-visual methods and techniques. Observation and participation in public elementary schools. Prerequi­ site: Departmental approval. Development, scope, and function of public education as it relates to the secondary school. Consideration of rural and urban schools, curriculum, vocational education and special education programs. Observation and participation in jun­ ior and senior high school classes. 403. STUDENT TEACHING IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL I. (4) Laboratory experiences in a public school classroom under the direction of a qualified supervising teacher. A seminar of one hour per week included in the course requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of all other departmental require­ ments and departmental approval. 404. STUDENT TEACHING IN THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL II. (4) Laboratory experience similar to Education 403 at a differ­ ent grade level. Education 403 and 404 are completed during the same semester. Consideration of topics related to the curriculum of the elementary school. Special emphasis given to the teaching of music and art. Co-requisite: 403-404. 442. TEACHING IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL. (3) Objectives, methods, and materials of teaching the various subjects in secondary schools. Required, before student teach­ ing, of candidates for the Standard Teaching Credential with a Specialization in Secondary Teaching, presenting majors and minors in Art, Business, English, Foreign Languages, Vocal Music, Instrumental Music, Physical Education, Sci­ ence, Social Sciences, Speech. 443, 444. STUDENT TEACHING IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL. (3, 3) Student teaching in the major field or in both the major and minor fields. Participation in a regular secondary school teaching program under the guidance of qualified supervising teachers for a semester. Includes a seminar each week in problems and procedures of secondary school teaching under the direction of college supervisors.
