The development of the child from infancy to adolescence.

309. ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY. (3)

Discussion of the underlying causes of abnormal behavior, various types of behavior disorders, and modern therapies employed.

310. CHILD AND ADOLESCENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. (4)

The physical, mental, emotional, social and spiritual growth and development of the individual during childhood and adolescence. Techniques of studying these ages applied. Spe­ cial consideration given to the social forces affecting behavior and to the mental hygiene and personality development of the individual. Designed to acquaint the student with the sensory and neuro­ logical equipment and behavioral capacities of animals at various levels. With laboratory sessions. Consideration of psychological systems and present trends ; e.g., behaviorism, Gestalt psychology, psychoanalysis, and others. Some consideration of the historical backgrounds of modern psychology.

The individual as a social entity and as a member of a group. Some attention given to the various theories explanatory of group behavior and of social control. With laboratory ses­ sions.

407. ADVANCED PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING. (3)

Practice in the administration and interpretation of the Binet, Wechsler, and other tests. Prerequisite: 306.

408. MENTAL HYGIENE. (3)

An introduction to the field of mental hygiene as it relates to the basis for mental health; a -discussion of deviations. The prevention of such abnormalities, with special reference to the needs of children and adolescents.
