This department is closely affiliated with and exists for training teachers in the elementary field and in the field of Christian education. Courses are open as electives to other students. 101. INTRODUCTION TO ART. (2) Fundamentals of design and composition. A survey of lettering. A basic course used as a prerequisite for all advanced work. 102. TECHNIQUES OF ART. (2) Prerequisite: Art 101. Original work and design using a survey of color media. Fundamentals of poster design with advanced lettering. 305. HANDCRAFT. (2) Prerequisite: Art 101. Survey of crafts dealing with copper, leather work, plastics, wood carving, textiles and elementary school techniques in crafts. 306. METHODS OF TEACHING ART. (2) Teaching art in the elementary schools. 401. WATER COLOR. (2) Prerequisites: Art 101, 102. Basic principles of water color and water-color techniques. 402. OIL PAINTING. (2) Prerequisites: Art 101, 102. The technique and application of oil painting with a historical survey of the schools of painting. 42
