The purpose of this department is to provide information and training in a much neglected area of knowledge to pastors and Sunday School workers as well as to missionaries serving on fields where public libraries are non-existent. The course is planned also to make available to Bible schools, colleges, institutes, seminaries,' ade quately trained personnel. Theory and practice go hand-in-hand in the three branches of Library Science: classification, cataloguing, and circulation. A minor in Library Science may be taken in the Bible and Christian Education majors. A minor consists of seventeen units of credit. At the completion of the minor the student receives a certificate in Library Science. 301. LIBRARY SCIENCE I. (2) Classification and cataloguing; a discussion of the history, principles, and practice of classification; a study of book members and methods of cataloguing. Discussion of subject headings, analytics, and cross-references. Making and filing of practice cards An introduction to books, authors, and publishers in relation to book selection and the principles underlying the choice of books for specialized and general libraries. 401. LIBRARY SCIENCE III. (4) Theory and practice, with desk practice, audio-visual aid classification and cata loguing, and practice in library filing. Cutter tables, call numbers. Use of Library of Congress cards. Minor book repairs. 402. LIBRARY SCIENCE IV. (4) Advanced classification and cataloguing with special emphasis upon Bible College and Bible Institute libraries. Practice in cataloguing a specific library. 403. PRACTICUM. (2) Practical experience in setting up a small library, the type depending upon the field the individual student chooses. 404. SEMINAR.
