The purpose of this department is to provide a background for further work in science, psychology, and education, and to furnish the basis for intelligent reading in the field of general knowledge. In addition to demonstration-laboratory work, and the usual procedures indigenous to work in biology, unusual opportunities are afforded by the Southern California region in its varieties of museums, zoos, its proximity to the seashore and mountains, etc. The courses will make use of these various facilities through field trips. 101-102. PHYSICAL SCIENCE. (2-2) A survey course giving to the student an understanding of the physical’ sciences and a background for further study. 201-202. BIOLOGY. (4-4) A survey course dealing with the basic principles operating in living organisms, including a study of the various types of animals and plants according to the accepted standard classifications. Inclusion of biological problems that are particularly related to human society. 301. PHYSIOLOGY AND ANATOMY. (3) An introduction to the basic facts of structure and function of the human body. 302. GENETICS. (3) Introduction to the laws of heredity. A consideration of the operation of these laws in plant and animal as well as man. 304. TEACHING OF HYGIENE. (3) A course designed to teach techniques essential in health education on the elemen tary school level. SUGGESTED COURSE FOR A CHRISTIAN EDUCATION MAJOR This course provides a major of 23 hours with a required minor in psychology of 13 hours. The student is expected to have a second major in Bible and doctrine of 34 hours. Of the remaining units, 10 are in English; 8 in social science; 8 in science; 5 in music; 4 in missions; 4 in speech; 2 in apologetics; and 17 in electives. FIRST YEAR SECOND YEAR
