SOCIAL SCIENCE MAJOR This major, with a missions emphasis, consists of 30 units, of which 24 must be upper division in the Social Sciences: 15 units from History, 6 units from Sociology, 6 units from Anthropology and 3 units from any area in the division . History 418, 419; Sociology 401, 404; and Anthropology 301 are required. The following supporting courses are required: Linguistics 331, and Philosophy 314 . The student is urged to consult the Director of Missionary Activities when planning his course of study. The missions minor consists of 20 units , including Doctrine 401; Sociology 401, 404; History 418; and Philosophy 314. Course selections will be made under the guidance of the department. BIBLE 301 THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES (3) The book of Acts with spec ial emphasis on the missionary philotiop hy and ac:tivity of the early church and its current application. MISSIONS 312 JEWISH MISSIONS (2) The history of the J ews, their festivals and customs, their fundamental beliefs ; effective methods of evangelization. PHILOSOPHY 314 PHILOSOPHY OF WORLD RELIGIONS (3) The philosophies and beliefs of the world's lead ing religions. Offered alternate year s. DOCTRINE 401 DOCTRINE OF THE CHURCH (3) The doctrine of the Church, its origin, ordinances, and organization, with careful consideration given to denominational di stinctives and t h e theological issues which underlie its mission. SOCIOLOGY 404, 405 SOCIAL STRUCTURE AND CHURCH GROWTH (3, 3) Sociological structures and their relationship to the principles and practices of church planting, growth, and expansion.
