Department Minor. The minor consists of 20 units, of which 12 must be upper division. The PE minor is designed for those students particularly interested in a second area of teaching competence, and for those interested in employing organized sports and games in camp and church programs. The fol­ lowing courses are suggested for the minor: PE 301 , or (302), 304, 305, 400 and any two of the courses numbered 310-316 for men or 320-324 for women. Courses are open to both men and women except when otherwise indicated by "men" or "women" following the course title. 100 PHYSICAL EDUCATION ORIENTATION (1) Required of all entering students. Orientation to physical education: its place, pur­ pose, and importance to the individual. Instruction and laboratory experiences in physical fitness along with discussion of total fitness . Guidance will be given in the selection of subsequent activity classes. 102 BALANCE AND POSTURE (Women) (1) Instruction in basic movement and balance, with emphasis on improving posture and physical fitnes,s. 103 ARCHERY AND BADMINTON (1) Development of skill in archery with practice in both field and target shooting. In­ struction in the rules, background, and techniques of playing badminton. 104 GOLF I (1) Fundamental techniques of golf, including rules, etiquette, background, and knowledge of playing. Fee $5.00. 105 BASKETBALL (1) Fundamental techniques 01 individual and team play, strategy and rules. Basic officiating princi,ples included. 106 BODY BUILDING (Men) (1) Principles and practice of weight lifting in the improvement of physical development , with emphasis on the muscles used in lifting. 107 FIELD HOCKEY (Women) (1) Fundamental techniques of individual and position play, t eam strategy, and rules of field hockey. 108 FLAG FOOTBALL ( 1) Fundamental techniques of individual and position play, team strategy, and rules of flag football . 109 LIFESAVING AND WATER SAFETY (1) Development of proficiency in lifesaving and artificial respiration techniques, and standards of organizing safe recreational and camp water programs. American Na­ tional Red Cross Certification upon successful completion. Fee: $4.00 110 SOCCER (1) Fundamental techniques of individual and position play, team strategy, and rules of soccer.
