Objective. The obj ective of this department is to acquaint the student with the pr incipal problems and issues of philosophy, historical and contemporary. The courses in philosophy are designed to contribute to the general education of the student, to aid him in r eflective thinking, and to contribute to an under­ standing of the persistent problems of our culture . Department Minor: 20 units, of which 12 must be upper division. The student must select 301 and two courses from 302, 303, 311, or 404. 102 LOGIC (3) Deductive and inductive inference and the analysis of language. 202 INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY (3) The problems , methods, concepts, outlook, and divi sions of philosophy. Either semester. 301 GREEK AND ROMAN PHILOSOPHY The history of philosophy through Neo-Platonism. 302 MEDIEVAL PHILOSOPHY (3) The history of philosophy from Augu stine to Wiliiam of Occam with special emphasis upon Augustin e and Thomas Aquinas . 303 MODERN PHILOSOPHY (3) The hi story of philosophy from the Renai ssance through the schools of the nineteenth century. 305 ETHICS (3) Principal ethical theories and thinkers. Consideration of basic problems and Biblical teaching.
