Africa’s innovation ecosystem is expanding faster than its formal education system can serve it, leaving founders in need of venture-building skills, hub managers requiring governance capacity, and ecosystem leaders seeking tools calibrated to African markets rather than imported Silicon Valley models. AfriLabs Academy was built to close that distance. In 2025, it continued to do so at scale.

It was the transformation of the Academy’s model. AfriLabs is repositioning the Academy as Africa’s Practical Innovation and Venture Execution Academy - shifting from a donor-funded training initiative to a sustainable, revenue- generating platform. The focus moves to practical, execution-oriented learning built around African case studies and real- world toolkits. The hybrid model combines self-paced access with high-value cohort programmes offering live instruction, mentorship, and peer collaboration. The Academy that reaches its next 14,000 learners will be structurally different from the one that reached the first. It will belong to Africa’s ecosystem rather than be defined by individual donor cycles.
AfriLabs Academy: Learning at Continental Scale
The Academy reached over 14,000 learners across 70+ countries through blended learning models combining self-paced courses, cohort-based programmes, live masterclasses, and expert-led workshops, issuing 11,000 certificates. This was enabled by partners including AFD (Agence Française de Développement), Digital Africa, and the AfriLabs Capacity Building Programme (ACBP), who supported curriculum co-development, scholarships for inclusive access, and the technology platforms for delivery.
