Rote songs, rhythm, reading songs, creative activities, music appreciation, dramatizations, and the playing of simple instruments. Consideration of the child voice. Survey of materials. Corequisite: 425 424. MUSIC EDUCATION IN THE SECONDARY SCHOOL. (3) Purposes and procedures. Organization of courses and activities, both choral and instrumental. Music appreciation . Study of methods, techniques, and problems. Survey of materials. Corequisite: 426 425-426. PRACTICE TEACHING. (4-4) A laboratory experience in a public school classroom situation under the direc­ torship of a qualified supervising teacher. Placement obtained through the coopera­ tion of a certified school district. Practice teachers are to be certified by the County Office before granted permission to practice teach. Certificates secured through the Director of Student Teaching. Attendance at one P.T.A. and one faculty meeting required. (288 teaching hours). Twenty dollars State-assessed minimum fee payable to school for supervising teacher, and twenty dollars transportation fee for bus service to public schools. Corequisites: 423,424 427. TEACHING CLASS PIANO. (2) Fundamentals of piano teaching. Class organization, conduct, and equipment. Survey of piano literature. 428. TEACHING THEORY. (2) Teaching methods and practice in teaching. Evaluation of theory texts. Observa­ tion in theory classes. APPLIED MUSIC Private instruction is offered in the following: organ, piano, voice, brass instru­ ments, string instruments, woodwind instruments, and accordion. *191a. PIANO CLASS I. Six to ten students. For the student with little or no previous training who desires to study applied music. *19'2a. PIANO CLASS II. Continuation of 191a. *191b. VOICE CLASS I. Same description as 191a. *19'2b. VOICE CLASS II. Continuation of 192a. 493. SERVICE PERFORMANCE. Classes divided according to instrument. (A laboratory course designed to ac­ quaint the student with specialized problems of the music program as it pertains to his principal instrument.) Applied Music Requirements for Applied Music Majors. The minimum number of earned units shall be 34 (including one unit of Service Performance).
