(2) A simple course in conducting especially designed to prepare the student to direct congregational singing through actual practice and analysis of each student's performance. 341. ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MUSIC METHODS. (2) A course designed for the elementary public school teacher covering all grade levels of the state music curriculum. Instruction in auto harp and in the methods enabling him to teach such classes as singing and rhythm band. Student demon­ strations required. MUSIC ENSEMBLES Coronation Choir. (3 hours weekly, ½ credit per semester). Performance of choral works representing various styles and periods. Open to all students by audition. Orchestra. (3 hours weekly, ½ credit per semester). Rehearsal and participation in concert programs. Open to all students by audition. Band. (1 hour weekly, ¼ credit per semester). Rehearsal and participation in performance for athletic and other college functions. Open to all students by audition. Chorus. (2 hours weekly, ½ creclit per semester). Performance of larger choral works. Open to all students without audition. Membership in an ensemble is r equired of all Music Majors during their entire course of study. PHILOSOPHY DEPARTMENT Objective. The objective of this department is to acquaint the student with the principal problems and issues of philosophy, historical and contemporary. The courses in philosophy are designed to contribute to the general education of the student, to aid him in reflective thinking, and to contribute to an understanding of the persistent problems of our culture. 201.
