Objective: The objective of this department is to acquaint the student with the principal problems and issues of phjlosophy, rustorical and contemporary. The courses in philo­ sophy are designed to contribute to the general education of the student, to aid him in reflective thinking, and to contribute to an understanding of the persistent problems of our culture. Department Minor: l 8 units, of wruch 12 must be upper division. The student must select 301 and two courses from 302,303, or 404. 102 LOGIC (3) Deductive and inductive inference and the analysis of language. 202 INTRODUCTION TO PHILOSOPHY (3) The problems, methods, concepts, outlook, and divisions of prulosophy . Either semester.

301 GREEK AND ROMAN PHILOSOPHY (3) The history of philosophy through Nee-Platonism.

302 MEDIEVAL PHILOSOPHY (3) The history of philosophy from Augustine to William of Occam with special emphasis upon Augustine and Thomas Aquinas. 303 MODERN PHILOSOPHY (3) The history of philosophy from the Renaissance through the schools of the nineteenth century. 305 ETHICS (3) Principal etrucal theories and thinkers; basic problems and Biblical teaching. 307 AESTHETICS (3) Principal problems and theories of art creation, appreciation, and criticism. 310 PHILOSOPHY OF RELIGION (3) A critical examjnation of the relationship of philosophy to religion, of crucial religj ous concepts, and of important religjous systems.
