Biota Scholarships include academic , honor, meritorious service , and presidential awards. Academic: $200, $400, or $600 . 3.3 G.P.A. required , based upon academic achievement and financial need.

Honor:

$1000 to each recipient, divided equally among men and women. 3.75 G.P.A. required for entering freshmen, 3.60 G.P .A. required for con­ tinuing Biola student s based upon academic achievement and personal qualifications with no consideration given to financial status.

Meritoriou s Service Award: $300 or $600.

2.50 minimum G.P.A. required. This award is reserved for students whose G.P.A. is not outstanding , but who excel in a particular field.

President ' s Award: $2000.

Advanced senior standing with intention to graduate at the end of the school year required , along with a minimum 3.60 G.P.A ., attendance at Biola for at least two year s, as well as personal qualifications.

Performance A wards are made by the Music Department to music major s with h.igh G.P.A. , ranging from $300 to $ l000. The scholarship must be used for the area in which the applicant auditioned , and the student is expected to use his judgment in participation of outside activities , so that a maximum of his time may be devoted to music. Music scholarship recipients are required to participate in an ensemble activity. Piano or organ majors are assigned a voice major whom they will accompany and practice with throughout the year in lieu of the ensemble participation requirement.

Athletic Scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate outstanding ability and achievement in a particular sport.

Forensics Scholarships are offered to participants on the school's debate team. Students awarded th.is scholarsh.ip are not necessarily communications majors.

Nursing Scholarships are available to declared nursing majors only. The scholarship is based on need, rather than academic ach.ievement. Qualified nursing students may receive up to$ I 500 per year. Nursing loans are also available. Cahfornia State Scholarships are made available to hundreds of students (residents of California) each year who have a high grade point average and who score high on the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Awards are usually given for full tuition; however, financial need is given prime consideration. Application must be made in November for participa­ tion in the following September. Students must request that SAT scores be sent by the College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB) to the Commission. Finalists will be notified and will be required to file a PCS or SFS before receiving the award. Students who have received a state scholarsh.ip for the previous year will be sent automatically renewal applications during the spring semester. In addition to those offered by the College , other scholarshjps are provided through the generosity of donors. These include the Les Barnett , Jean Bernard, Albert Kelley, McBride-Loe , Brandt , Emma Johnson, Gordon Johnson , George Mayr , Hunt Jenne Ambrose , Layne Foundation , and Walter Hong Scholarships.
