DEVOTIONAL LI FE The College feels the spiritual life of the individual student in the midst of a program of study to be of utmost importance. Each fall, soon after classes are in progress, there is Spiritual Emphasis Week. Once each semester the school observes a planned Day of Prayer, and informal prayer groups meet as a regular part of dormitory life . The annual Torrey Memorial Bible Conference and the Missionary Conference are high points in the development of the spiritual life of the student. Attendance is required at all of these events. STUDENT MISSIONARY UNION The Student Missionary Union (SMU) of Biola College is an active chapter of the Student Foreign Missions Fellowship, a national organization of students who are looking forward to foreign missionary service. · The Student Missionary Union is a student organization of which every student of Biola College is a member. A major function of SMU is to provide opportunities for students to share their faith in Christ by various means of evangelism. The SMU Gospel Teams sing and speak in churches, colleges, high schools, and youth camps. Approximately 200 students serve Christ weekly in East Los Ange les, Watts, La Mirada, and the surrounding vicinity. In addition to this, many students are sent overseas to maintain practical summer ministries with experienced missionaries. Once each week SMU sponsors the chapel program by which students are challenged with mission opportunities. By arranging for missionary speakers, financing missionary projects of several thousand dollars each year, presenting the annual Missionary Confer­ ence and organizing missionary prayer groups, students are made aware of worldwide missionary needs. ASSOCIATED STUDENTS The Associated Students of Biola Co llege, of which all students are members, has as its stated purpose: "to coordinate student affairs and to promote the interest and welfare of the students." The Associated Students' Council is composed of twenty members from the executive and legislative branches of the government. The Council includes from the executive branch the President , Vice-President , Business Manager, and Secretary . Within the legislative branch there are the pre sident s of several organizations : Student Missionary Union and each class. The legislative branch also includes Board Chairmen (Athletics, Social Affairs and Traditions , Public Events , College Union, Publications), a Parliamentarian , three Representatives-at -large, a Men's representative, and a Women ' s representative. A five-member Judicial Board exists to review decisions made by Council. Memb_ers of the Associated Students' Council have their offices located in the College Union Building . They convene weekly to discuss business, resolve conflicts of interest, and initiate programs. Apart from the specific functions of Board Chairmen and Organiza­ tion presidents, Council members are responsible fo r formalized clialogue with the administration and faculty of the college in conveying the consensus of the students. Also a Courier of coming events is published weekly and secretarial services are provided for all organizations through the Associated Students' Offices.
