401 CR EATIVE WRITING (3) The short story form , with practice in techniques of narration, character ization , plot and dialogue in segments and completed stories ; requirements for various fict ion markets. Alternate years , offered 1975-76. 405 GROUP COMMUNICATIONS (3) Contemporary communication theory, including general semantics and group dynamics; leadership, group process , and interpersonal re lations in the small group. Prerequisite: 105. Alternate years , offered 1974-75. 420 STUDIES IN SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY (3) At least one section offered each year upon sufficient demand. Course may be repeated with different content (section title) . Areas covered include such disorders as aphasia , stutter ing, audiology, voice problems, cleft palate , and cerebral palsy. (1-3) Various aspects and problems in the structure , functions , policies and effects of the mass media gained through classroom studies and / or supervised field work. 431 INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION (3) Relationship between communication and culture with emphasis on factors effecting the quality and processes of interpersonal communication. 432 HISTORY OF TV AND RADIO (3) Beginning, growth and development of radio and television in the United States from 1920 to present. 435· PSYCHOLOGY OF COMMUNICATION (3) Discussion of man as a manipulator: introduction to transactional analysis ; analysis of impact of verbal and nonverbal forms of communication as modes of persuasion. 440 READER'S THEATRE (3) 430 COMMUNICATIONS SEMINAR Programming and presentation of prose, poetry , and drama by two or more readers using the skills of the oral interpreter as we ll as those of the actor. Methods of preparation , performance, and directing. May be repeated for a total of 6 units. 450 COMMUNICATION PRACTICUM (1-3) Directed practical experience in the various fields of communication. May be repeated for a maximum of 3 units . Permission of the department must be secured the semester prior to enrolling for course . 470 DIRECTED RESEARCH (1-3) Individual research in an area of communications determined in consultation with the in­ structor. May be repeated for a maximum of three units. Prerequisite : consent.
