Objectives: The objectives of the Missions Department are fourfold: (I) to help each career-missionary student be a competent, well-functioning missionary who is able to communicate the Gospel cross-culturally; (2) to help each student respond to the Church's world-wide commission and to his personal responsibility in its fulfillment ; (3) to provide the Christian community with an information center that will handle their inquiries concerning missions; and (4) to insure that all those in the department will be obedient to the Lord and under His control so that they will carry out His will in wo rld-wide mission . The Missions Department recommends three distinct programs preparatory to missionary act ivity. These programs are the following: 1. BIBLE-MISSIONS PROGRAM 2. CHRISTIAN EDUCA TlON-MISSIONS PROGRAM These programs combine a major in Bible or Christian Education with the electives taken under the direction of the Department of Missions. These electives include Anthropology 301; History 327; Linguistics 301; Philosophy 401; Sociology 404; and six additional units in appropriate areas.

3. SOCIAL SCIENCE MAJOR (Missions emphasis) Th is major is described under the Social Sciences major.

Department Minor: The missions minor consists of 18 units , including Anthropology 301; History 327; Linguistics 301; Philosophy 401; and Sociology 404. Course selections made under the guidance of the Department. Courses directly related to missions are offered in several other departments and are included in the list below. ANTHROPOLOGY (3) Nature of culture; cultural growth and history ; the range of cultural phenomena , includ­ ing material culture, social organization, religion, language, and related topics. 301 GENERAL CULTURAL ANTHROPOLOGY BIBLE (3) The book of Acts with special emphasis on the missionary philosophy and activity of early church and its current application. 300 EARLY CHRISTIAN HISTORY-ACTS DOCTRINE 470 DOCTRINAL RESEARCH (1-3) Research methods employed in the solution of specific doctrinal problems. Sections offered every year in areas such as Biblical Authority , Contemporary Problems, Missions , Prophetic Problems , Doctrinal Bibliography. HISTORY 327 HISTORY OF THE 'EXPANSION OF CHRISTIANTIY (3) The background, origin , development, and spread of the Christian religion; emphasis on the modern era.
