Counseling Program Levine Academy employs two full-time counselors, one is assigned to Early Childhood and Lower School grades, and the other is assigned to the Middle School. Our two counselors are scheduled into each classroom each week to deliver the formal educational side of our counseling program: for Early Childhood 3’s and PreK classes, the counselor will meet with these students for 20 minutes each week; whereas for the lower school grades Kindergarten through 4 th Grade, the counselor meets with these students for 30 minutes per week. In the Middle School, the counselor will meet with 5 th through 8 th Grade students for 45 minutes per week. Our counselors use evidenced-based curriculum that focuses on emotional regulation and social emotional learning, including such topics as: empathy, conflict resolution, effective communication, and resiliency. Outside the classroom, the counselors will meet with the SST (Student Support Team) to help provide accommodations and interventions to students. Counselors will also be included in accommodation plan meetings with parents, teachers and members of the SST. Both counselors will have a caseload of students that have accommodations. The counselors develop the accommodations for these students, along with the parents, teachers, and SST team and make sure they are implemented. Our counselors will assist and offer consultations to teachers, parents and administrators with academic, behavioral, social/emotional or family issues. The counseling program plays an important role in the school’s relationships with external professionals and specialists, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, speech therapists and occupational therapists to coordinate services for students. Our counselors will also provide crisis intervention and limited individual counseling to students. They also provide group intervention when appropriate on topics such as peer relationships, problem solving, and conflict resolution; this includes having lunch with the students. Additional roles for our counselors include professional development to staff during in-service, participation in the admissions process for new students, assistance with new student transitions, help with class placement, and help to facilitate our 4 th through 8 th Grade Human Growth and Development program, taught by Planned Parenthood. Our counselors coordinate the annual Group Dynamix program for our 4 th and 5 th Grade students. The counselors meet on a weekly basis with the Principal.
