Human Growth and Development Program for 4-8 Grades Our HGD Program is widely considered to be among the best in the Dallas area. This program offers students an opportunity to learn factual information in a responsible, nonthreatening environment. Instruction is team taught by long-time teacher/consultant to Levine Academy, Mrs. Linda Fyffe and other instructors from Planned Parenthood with the support of Suzie Hacker and Andy Blum, our School Counselors. Each grade level explores issues and concerns appropriate for its age from a general perspective as well as a Jewish values perspective. HGD lessons are taught weekly for a period of 4-6 weeks depending on the grade level. The Jewish values perspective is taught by our community rabbis. Each year we build on the content of the previous year and the subject matter becomes more in-depth and explicit. The HGD curriculum begins in 4 th grade and continues to 8 th grade. All lessons have a parent follow-up component, which is sent home to parents after the weekly lesson. 4 th Grade Session 1 : Ground rules and start discussion on puberty Family Activity 1: Three Things Session 2 : Film and discussion on puberty with a single-sex session https://www.pgschoolprograms.com/Educators boys only and girls only will be shown to each session and a discussion at the end Family Activity 2: Booklet from P&G Session 3: Appropriate body boundaries and male anatomy with a Stanley sperm story Family Activity 3: Body Boundaries Session 4 : Female anatomy with an Agatha Egg story (reproduction will not be introduced this year, but this is a perfect opportunity to talk about how the sperm meets the egg)
