Self Study Report on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Our Levine Academy Self Study Steering Committee decided to add a special report on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Our main reason for including this section among our Self Study reports is that our most recent 3-Year Strategic Plan, passed by the Levine Board in the Spring of 2019, included as one of its four main pillars, the topic of Inclusivity. Our Board’s aim, during our Strategic Planning deliberations in 2018/2019, was to examin e fully our school’s current status on the topic of inclusivity and to a gree on a series of declarations, a process which concluded with a document called “Inclusivity Declarations.” That document, which became a main facet of the Strategic Plan in 2019, we include here in its entirety: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inclusivity Declarations for Levine Academy 3.18.19 Our Inclusivity: -- Levine Academy’s commitment to diversity is all -encompassing: we seek to embrace all facets of human differences within our student population — gender, race, nationality, socio-economic, learning traits, physical traits, family profiles, Jewish beliefs, and all other manners in which our families self-identify. This level of inclusivity is a natural by-product of Levine's Middot. • Inclusivity means accommodating different Jewish affiliations, exposing students to all movements within normative Judaism. • Provide programming and education for both faculty and students to increase knowledge of and raise awareness of inclusion and diversity. Our Community: —Levine Academy, being an “inclusive, dynamic Jewish day school,” welcomes and celebrates a wide spectrum of diverse Jewish pathways and practices. • All families to feel at home and embraced; all children celebrated for b’nai mitzvot, regardless of synagogue affiliation. • Levine to be a center/hub for Jewish learning and for community-wide celebrations and traditions. Our Teaching & Learning: — Levine Academy provides a rigorous and dynamic academic program: students developing exploratory, creative, and critical thinking; preparing students with the 21 st century skills necessary to succeed; instilling in them the motivation and responsibility to be active Jewish citizens and leaders in repairing and bettering our world. • Articulate the outcome profile of a Levine graduate; define core skills and knowledge learned by all Levine graduates. • Jewish ethics, values, culture, and history to be integrated throughout the general studies and Judaic curriculum. This should include Zionism and a love for Israel, including its language, culture and history.
