Self Study Report

Finance Management Strategic Priorities

• Continue on the current path of exploring compensation studies and institute a multiple year strategy to rectify salary levels that are below the mean in our region for comparable experience and grade levels taught. • Begin a long-term commitment to providing for a PPRRSMbudget line, even if it must begin small. • The school must acquire a full strategic understanding of the key factors that will contribute to financial sustainability — such as, what size endowment would be ideal (and realistic)? How much should the school be raising in its annual giving? What should the target compensation levels be? What are the ideal budgetary ratios necessary to be in line wi th independent school standards? Facilities Strengths and Accomplishments • The school has been able to secure insurance coverage for two significant weather events in the past five years — a $350,000 re-roofing job in 2016/17 following a hail storm; and an approximately $200,000 flood damage project following the ice storm that busted several pipes in the school in February 2021. • Because of the generosity of a Haymann Family Gift to Levine Academy to enhance facilities over the past five years--$100,000 per year — the school has been able to improve substantially several facets of the campus: the all-purpose cafeteria auditoriumcalled Beit Aryeh; a complete overhaul of our outdoor playground for the K8 students; a full renovation of both gymnasiums; outdoor improvements to the early childhood playground area; and the installation of flat touch screen television monitors in all K8 classrooms. • Important security enhancements have been made to the school in the past six years: we now have an iron fence along 90% of the campus’ perimeter, with electronic access gates; and nighttime parking lot lamps; and enhanced signage to help with traffic flow during carpool times. We have raptor technology at both entrances to the school; to go along with these enhancements, the school employs two full time armed security officers for all times when the school is in session. Facilities Challenges • The west side of the campus, housing the K8 students and the school’s administrative team, still draws its HVAC from an old chill water system that is difficult to maintain and regulate. Replacing this system would come at a substantial price tag. • Better viewage from the K8 Main Entrance reception area would help with customer service and with security.
