Fine Arts Self Study Report
Fine Arts Curricular Inclusion and Opportunity Levine Academy provides music and visual art programs for all Kindergarten through eighth grade levels. In the Lower School (Grades K through 4 th grade), the Fine Arts Visual Arts program is formally factored into the weekly program for all students. Kindergarten thru 4 th Grade students attend weekly forty-five minute classes. 5th Grade students receive one trimester of weekly art classes, which meet for forty-five minutes. Students may also enroll in art elective classes (as described below). 5 th through 8 th Grade classes: Art electives are available for all middle school students. Courses are project-based and involve a wide range of media, art styles, and topics of special interest to students. For 6 th , 7 th , and 8 th Grade electives: Electives meet weekly for forty-five minutes and students rotate elective choices each trimester. After School Art Classes: Kindergarten through 3 rd grade students may also enroll in weekly after school art enrichment classes through the Levine Educare program. The Levine Fine Arts Music Program is also prominently factored into the formal school curriculum. Kindergarten through 4th Grade students attend thirty-minute music classes each week. Additional rehearsal sessions are scheduled in the weeks prior to performances such as Chagigot, Kehilla Kedosha, Zimriyah, and the eighth grade send-off program. 5th through 8th Graders may pursue interests in music by enrolling in Band, Show Choir, or music electives such as Garage Band and Ukulele . Students may also participate in a music leadership program for Shabbat services. All music classes meet weekly for forty-five minutes. Band and Show Choir electives require a yearly commitment and additional practice sessions prior to performances (band students are scheduled for five performances per year). Music elective class offerings rotate each trimester to maximize a variety of experiences. Additional Fine Arts Opportunities In the Lower School, Theatre and Dance content are integrated with General Studies and particularly with the Jewish Studies programs. Students produce multiple theatrical skits and dance/movement routines for Shabbat and other special occasions, including Chagigot. In the Middle School, Dance and Theatre classes are rotated into elective offerings when students express interest in them. Students periodically produce theatrical skits and dance/movement routines for Shabbat, talent shows, Show Choir performances, and other special occasions. On-Going Review and Enhancements to the Fine Arts Program Program development is an ongoing process to ensure variety and relevancy to students. Content is regularly revised to incorporate specific student interests, new developments in the world of Fine Arts, and important current events.
