302. AUDIO VISUAL. (2) A study of audio visual techniques applicable to the t eaching process in the ele­ mentary and secondary schools. The operation of tape recorders, 16 mm., opaque, slide and filmstrip, and overhead projectors with tachistoscopic and microscopic adaptors. Consideration is given to the construction and use of the three dimensional bulletin board, diorama, montage, collage, panorama, model, tableau, pantomime, shadow play, and puppetry. 304. WRITING METHODS. ( 1) (Upon recommendation) Drill in manuscript, cursive, and blackboard techniques used in the elementary school. 305-306. OBSERVATION AND PARTICIPATION. (1 -1) Directed observation in the public schools, introduction of administrative person­ nel, survey of school services, six grade-level (kindergarten through eighth) partici­ pative teaching contacts during the two semesters, with evaluations by district and college personnel. Music majors will (in the second semester) have participative contact on the Secondary level. 307. GENERAL LANGUAGE AND READING METHODS. (4) Methods and instructional materials for the development of skill in the four facets of the Language Arts; Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing. Techniques for developing readiness as well as the attitudes, abilities, and skills necessary for proficiency in each. Experience in the preparation and presentation of language activities at the various levels. 308. SOCIAL STUDIES METHODS. (2) The development of a curriculum and the selection of materials for the teaching of social studies in the elementary schools. Emphasis is given to the preparation of units of work and methods of instruction at the various grade levels. 309. TEACHING OF ARITHMETIC. (2) The presentation of ain1s, principles, and methods used in developing the teaching of basic number concepts. The development of an understanding of the fundamental processes as needed on the elementary level. Matrials of instruction examined and constructed. Opportunity for the preparation and presentation of lessons through sociodrama. 310. SCIENCE METHODS. (2) A course designed to help the prospective teacher develop a science program on the element ary level with emphasis on the practical classroom techniques of experi­ mentation, demonstration, observation and the collection and identification of science objects. 316. EDUCATIONAL TESTS AND MEASUREMENTS. (3) A course dealing with the use of both mental and achievement tests as found in the public schools at the present time. A brief historic development of tests of general ability, special abilities and aptitudes, achievement tests in the different learning processes, general procedures in scoring and interpreting test results, the computation and use of measures of central tendency, variability and correlation. 317. KINDERGARTEN SCHOOL METHODS. (2) Study and evaluation of the most effective methods to provide for the normal growth of the Kindergarten-Primary child as evaluated from the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual standpoints.
