being disqualified. A student is restricted from participation in extra-curricular college activities, and the academic load will be limited during this period of probation to a maximum of thirteen units each semester. Academic Dismissal: A student may be disqualified at any time if his grades are very low in one semester or if he has not achieved minimum grades for two successive semesters. A student who is considered for dismissal may be allowed to continue on strict probation as determined by the Academic Standards Committee. A disqualified student may apply for readmission only after a full year has elapsed. After one year, he may apply for readmission only if evidence is given which indicates that chances for scholastic success are good. A student who has been twice disqualified may not be readmitted. Academic Load The minimum full-time load is twelve units at the undergraduate level. A student who is on scholastic probation may be limited to twelve units or less depending upon his grade point average. A minimum of ten units must be taken by those living on campus. A unit of credit is generally considered to consist of one class hour (50 minutes) a week for a semester. In physical education activities, laboratory sessions, and in a few other instances, a unit of credit may involve more than one class period a week. Generally a student is limited to seventeen units of classroom work a semester. After the first semester a student with a grade point average of 3.0 may petition the Registrar to carry more than seventeen units. In no case will a student be permitted to carry more than twenty units each semester. School Honors Students completing their course with a grade point average of 3.25 are graduated Cum Laude. Students with a 3.5 average are graduated Magna Cum Laude. Students with a 3.85 average are graduated Summa Cum Laude. Each year elections to membership in the Biola Chapter of Delta Epsilon Chi t'lonor Society are made from the members of the graduating class who have a scholastic average of 3.5 or better throughout their course. The Delta Epsilon Chi Honor Society was established to give recognition to high scholastic attainment in institutions of Christian higher education. Extracurricular Activities All groups or individuals who represent the College must manifest satisfactory standing as to application, cooperation, spiritual life, and scholastic attainment (the overall grade point average must be C), and must be approved by the faculty. Pre-Professional Courses Many leading educators in the professional fields recognize that a liberal arts curriculum provides the most suitable undergraduate preparation. The satisfactory completion of the courses required of all students during their first two years in attendance at Biola College provides much of the necessary background. Biola College offers courses which serve as foundational material for several of the professions. There are certain basic courses in natural science, language, and social science which are required by most professional schools. To be sure that the proper courses are selected, the student should seek information from the professional school of his choice.

Pre-Medical: In addition to the general courses a student interested in entering the medical field should take courses in biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. See the Biological Science or Physical Science majors for specific recommendations and requirements. Pre-Legal: In addition to the general courses a student interested in entering the field of law should take courses in modern languages , political science, economics, American history and government, and related subjects. Pre-Seminary: Biola College provides an excell ent background in undergraduate education for seminary training. The general education requirements, the Bible requirements, and major field requirements in their total scope meet the requirements for admission into seminary. The pre-seminary student should check his program at Biola College with the requirements of the particular seminary he plans to enter. DEGREES OFFERED The Bachelor of Arts Degree. Offered with majors in Americar. Studies, Art, Biblical Studies, Communications, English, History, Humanities, Liberal Studies (see Education Department), Music, Physical Education, Psychology, Social Science, and Sociology. The Bachelor of Music Degree. Offered with majors in Applied Music, Music Theory and Composition, and Music Education. The Bachelor of Science Degree. Offered with majors in Biological Science, Business Administration , Church Education Ministries, Mathematical Sciences, Nursing, and Physical Science. All Baccalaureate degrees require a minimum of 130 semester units of credit for graduation. The Bachelor of Music Degree requires a minimum of 138 units. A degree in Biological Science requires a minimum of 135 units and Nursing a minimum of 139 units. The Master of Arts Degree. Offered in Christian School Administration (through the Education Department) and in Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling (through the Psychology Department). TALBOT THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY, the professional graduate school of Biola College, offers the Master of Arts Degree in Biblical Studies, Christian Education , Missions, and Theological Studies. TALBOT also offers the Master of Divinity Degree and the Master of Theology Degree. DOUBLE MAJOR A student may be graduated with two majors. The following information is for those pursuing two majors: All pre-requisites, supporting courses and departmental requirements for each major must be completed. The second major must have a minimum of 18 upper division units unique to that major. The student must confer with the departments in which he will major and with the registrar. MINORS Although Biola College does not require the student to have a minor for graduation, there are a number of instances in which a student may wish to take a minor, especially in planning for a career in teaching. By checking the various departments of the catalog, a student may determine if a minor is offered. A minor usually requires a minimum of 18 units, 12 of which should be upper division.
