COMMUTER STUDENTS The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs seeks to meet the needs of Biola' s commuter students by promoting communication between the commuter and the campus as well as the commuter and his or her community. The unique needs of the married student are considered along with those of the single student. A file on available housing for commuter students is also maintained in this office. Several apartment complexes are within easy driving distance of the campus. Please contact the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs or the Associated Students Office for information on other services which are available. DISCIPLINE Biola College is dedicated to the training of young people who are sincere and earnest in their desire to live for Jesus Christ. Because this is true , students are expected to give evidence of conduct consistent with such a profession. The disciplined life is co·nsistent with the biblical model for a Christian. At the time of admission , each student enters into an agreement with the College to be responsible for certain details of activity and conduct. Students whose attitudes prove to be uncooperative are asked to withdraw from school. STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES Biola College offers a Health Service for all registered students. This service is under the direction of an on-campus physician with a scheduled sick call every morning and every afternoon, Monday through Friday. A medical consent form must be signed by parent or guardian for all unmarried students under eighteen years of age. This consent does not take away a student's privilege of choosing his own medical care. Students carrying 7 units or more are required to have physical examinations prior to coming to Biola College. These records must be complete and on file with the college physician. Biola offers protection to the student against certain expenses caused by accident, injury, or emergency illness in the form of a required plan of medical insurance. The cost of this insurance is $37.50 per semester and is subject to change from time to time by the company.
Biola does not assume any responsibility for serious illness or accident on or off campus, in or out of college games or activities. The use of school facilities is at the student's own personal risk. CAREER GUIDANCE AND PLACEMENT: The College offers a free placement service to Biola graduates and career planning services to current students. This program is part of the services available through the Counseling Center. Inquiries should be made to the Director, Career Guidance and Placement, Biola College.
Student Activities
DEVOTIONAL LIFE The college believes the spiritual life of the individual student in the midst of a program of study to be of utmost importance. Therefore, every student is urged to set aside time, both morning and evening for personal devotions. In addition to these personal devotional periods, students meet daily, Monday through Friday, for a half-hour chapel service with worship and praise as the primary purpose. The chapel programs include speakers chosen from faculty , alumni , students, and visiting guests, musical groups, Christian films , drama, and other special events. Each fall , soon after classes are in progress, there is Spiritual Emphasis Week. Once each semester the school observes a planned Day of Prayer, and informal prayer groups meet as a regular part of dormitory life. The Torrey Memorial Bible Conference and the Missionary Conference are high points in the development of the spiritual life of the student. Attendance is required at all of these events.
