believe that He was more than He really was, then we are faced with the problem of explaining how it is that the highest moral ity h um an ity possesses, the strongest support to truth and integrity the world knows comes from a faker and a fraud. Could He out of untruth have pro duced truth, and by lack of in tegrity could He have created integrity? That too, we must disregard as an impossibility. C. S. Lewis puts it tersely: I am trying to prevent anyone from saying the really silly thing that people often say about Him; “ I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.” That’s the one thing we mustn’t say. A man who was m erely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn’t be a great moral teacher. H e’d eith er be a lunatic on a level with a man who says he’s a poached egg — or else he’d be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son o f God, or else a mad man or something worse. You can shut Him up for a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But don’t let us come with any pa tronizing nonsense about His be ing a great human teacher. He hasn’t left that open to us. I believe that Jesus is exactly Who He says He is, the Son of God and the only Saviour. These amazing claims are sup ported by His equally amazing life. Occasionally someone ap pears on the platform of history claiming to be divine. There is a man in Philadelphia today who gathers his angels about him in Harlem heavens. He says he is God Almighty incarnate in the world. But serious and sensitive minds reject this as preposter- THE K IN G 'S BUSINESS
