Student Instructor FRANK MERCER. Objective. The objective of the Physical Education program is to provide ade­ quate wholesome recreational activities for every student, academic training leading to vocational or avocational work in physical education after college, and intra­ mural sports and varsity athletics for those who wish specialized activities. High­ land College and Red Shield gyms, swimming pools, athletic fields, and equipment are scheduled for all classes pending the completion of the building at 555 South Hope. Every college student must complete two hours' credit in Physical Education before the end of the sophomore year. 101, 102. FRESHMEN PHYSICAL EDUCATION. (1-1) A course designed to give participative experience in calisthenics, tumbling, apparatus, group games, and organized sports: volleyball, basketball. softball, bad­ minton, tennis. 301, 302. TEACHING PHYSICAL EDUCATION. (2-2) Elementary school physical education procedures including postural and rhyth­ mic exercises, fundamentals of games, techniques covering the simplest primary skills through the more difficult seasonal sports, such as baseball, basketball, football, and volleyball. Instruction in the development of a program of physical educa­ tion on the elementary school level.
