Meritorious Service Award: $200 to $600 2.50 minimum G.P.A. required. This award is reserved for students whose G.P.A. is not outstanding, but who excel in a particular field. President's Award: Full Tuition Senior standing with intention to graduate at the end of the school year required, along with a minimum 3.60 G.P.A. , attendance at Biola for at least two years, as well as personal qualifications. Music Awards are made by the Music Department to music majors with high-performance and scholastic capabilities ranging from $300 to $1 ,200. The scholarship must be used for the area in which the applicant auditioned, and the student is expected to use his judgment in participation of outside activities, so that a maximum of his time may be devoted to music. Music scholarship recipients are also required to participate in an ensemble activity. Athletic Scholarships are offered to students who demonstrate outstanding ability and achievement in a particular sport. Forensics Scholarships are offered to participants on the school's competitive speech team. Students awarded this scholarship are not necessarily communications majors. Art Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate significant potential in the field of art. Nursing Scholarships are available to declared nursing majors only. The scholarship is based on need, rather than academic achievement. Qualified nursing students may receive up to $1 ,500 per year. Nursing loans are also available. California State Scholarships are made available to hundreds of students (residents of California) each year who have a high grade point average and who score high on the Scholastic Aptitude Test. Awards are usually given for full tuition , however financial need is given prime consideration. Application must be made in February for participation in the following September. Scores from the S.A.T. Administrations conducted after January, 1973, may be used. In addition to those offered by the College, other scholarships are provided through the generosity of donors. Questions concerning these awards should be referred to the Director of Student Financial Services. Grants Grants are financial awards that do not have to be repaid, but the amount a student receives is based solely on his financial need as determined by standard financial aid policies. The Basic Educational Opportunity Grant (BEOG) Program is a Federal Program which is designed to assist students with financial need. The Supplementary Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) Program supported by the federal goverment, is designed to help needy students. A student's financial need must exceed half the cost of his education to qualify. These grants range from $200 to $1400 per year, but the amount cannot exceed one-half the total aid given to a student. (For example, if he receives $700 SEOG, he must also receive a $700 loan, scholarship, or combination of both.) The amount a parent can contribute to the student' s expenses is also used in computing his SEOG eligibility. As funds are available, College Grants are made to needy students from the College Grant fund. This fund is maintained by gifts from friends of the College. Students are not required to repay the College, but it is hoped that recipients will contribute to the fund when they have

The deadline for financial aid applications is April 1. Financial statements should be filed with College Scholarship Service by March 1 to insure that they will reach the college by the April 1 deadline. What to File? A Student Aid Application must be completed. Forms are available in the Office of Student Financial Services. (also in centerfold of catalog) FAF - The Financial Aid Form is a financial statement designed to summarize a family' s income, expenses, and assets to arrive at a student's financial need. The FAF may be obtained from Student Financial Services. California residents are required to apply for the California State Scholarship and request that a copy of both the FAF and Student Aid application be sent to Biola (CSS code #4017). If this is done , a separate application need not be filed when applying for college aid. California State Scholarship applications are available in the Office of Student Financial Services and must be mailed to the California Student Aid Commission, 1410 Fifth St., Sacramento, California, 95814, by the February deadline to be considered for the following fall. Basic Grant applications are available at most high schools and colleges. The FAF may also be used in applying for Basic Grants. Departmental applications for scholarships (for music, athletics, art, and forensics), are available from departments only. For example, write to the Chairman, Music Department, Biola College.

TYPES OF AID AVAILABLE Scholarships

All financial aid is awarded for the academic year, and one half is applied to a student's school account each semester (unless stated otherwise). Students enrolled for only one semester are entitled to only that semester' s award. Awards are made by the Scholarship Committee to students meeting academic and personal requirements. Scholarships ranging from $200 upward are given for a period of one year, and in most cases are renewable if the student continues to meet requirements and funds are available. Bio/a Scholarships include academic, honor, meritorious service, and presidential awards. Academic: $200 to $1000. 3.3 G.P.A. required, based upon academic achievement and financial need. Honor: One-half tuition annually to each recipient. 3. 75 G. P.A. required for entering freshmen , 3 .60 G. P.A. required for continuing Biola students based upon academic achievement and personal qualifications. Consideration given to financial status.
