The Humanities and Fine Arts Division offers majors in art, communications, English, humanities, and music. Within each of these broad majors there is a diversity of specific programs available, depending upon the student's individual interests and goals. Although there are no majors in foreign languages or philosophy, a student may major in humanities with an emphasis in Greek, German, Spanish, or philosophy. Because the areas under humanities and fine arts aim toward an understanding of man - his ideas and aspirations, his search for spiritual identity and meaning - they educate the student to communicate that understanding in practical and creative ways through lay ministries and church-related vocations. They also prepare students for teaching and further graduate work.

Objectives: The Art Department seeks to train the student in skills needed for the production of art work, and provide guidance in the development of a philosophy of art that relates to the student, his Creator and, in turn, to the world. Upon completion of the art major, it is intended the student will have developed an adequate foundational understanding of various art expressions; skills in areas of two-dimensional and three-dimensional emphasis; adequate tools to equip for a professional career in art; and a perspective of art, through historical and contemporary approach, for a career in art education. Department Major: 50 units of Art of which 36 are specified requirements (see department for listing) . The remaining 14 units are art electives in an area of specialization under the direction of the department. Department Major with Education Emphasis: 38 units of Art. (Please consult with Education Department and major advisor.) Department Major with Advertising Design Emphasis: 50 units of Art of which 36 are specific requirements: 9 units are specified upper devision core courses in communications, and 5 of Art /Communications electives. Department Minor: The student must complete lower division courses 100, 103, 110 and 6 units of elective, plus 6 units of upper division courses totaling 21 units. NOTE: Completion of the art major fulfills the general education requirement for fine arts.

Continuation of Drawing I studying still life and model in various media. Prerequisite: 103 or consent. Fee $15.00.
