Registered nurses or licensed vocational nurses intending to challenge nursing courses should make an appointment with the Department of Nursing as soon as accepted by the College. Requirements for Students Accepted into the Nursing Program: A student is required to have at his own expense a yearly physical examination and specific laboratory tests and immunizations between June and September. Each student is assessed for liability insurance through the college when participating in clinical courses. Record of comparable liability insurance coverage for the licensed RN students must be on file with the Nursing Department. The college and cooperating agencies assume no responsibility for illness or accidents occurring during the school program. Lecture and clinical must be taken concurrently in courses with a clinical component. A student must earn a minimum grade of 2.0 in theory and clinical nursing courses and maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 in order to progress in nursing. Courses may be repeated one time only. Astudent must arrange for his/ her own transportation to clinical agencies as the college will not provide transportation. The general education requirement for a foreign language for nursing majors is two years of the same high school language or four units of a college language. Nursing majors are exempt from general education literature and four units of History 100.

Emphasis on the nurse ' s role in utilization of nursing process for promotion and maintenance of adaptation. Concepts from psy­ chology, sociology, nutrition , pharmacology and other disci­ plines applied. Prerequisite: 302. Offered both semesters. 402 MATERNITY NURSING - CLINICAL (4) Application of theory focusing on meeting the needs of healthy families and those experiencing problems of adaptation during the childbearing process. Offered both semesters. 430 ADVANCED DISTRIBUTIVE NURSING-LECTURE (3) Combines nursing theory and concurrent clinical experience in community health and community mental health care settings. Prerequisite: 400, 401 , 402. 430 ADVANCED DISTRIBUTIVE NURSING-CLINICAL (5) Opportunity to demonstrate proficient use of the nursing process with individuals, families, and communities in promotion and maintenance of adaptation. Clinical Fee $1\J00 441 INTRODUCTION TO NURSING RESEARCH (2) Theory basic to nursing research. Defining problems and for­ mulating appropriate study designs examined. Prerequisite: 400, 401 , 402. 442 APPLIED NURSING RESEARCH (1) Critique literature, develop a basic research proposal or initiate a research project. Prerequisite: 441. 450 ADVANCED EPISODIC NURSING-LECTURE (2) Combines nursing theory and practice in the acute health care setting. Prerequisite: 400, 401 , 402. 450 ADVANCED EPISODIC NURSING-CLINICAL (6) Leadership concepts and behavior synthesized and utilized in planning and directing care for a group of clients. Students also elect either a primary nursing or critical care component. Clinical Fee $10.00

Continuation of the adult client begun in 301 with greater em­ phasis and depth placed o n responses to stress involving pathophysiology. Prerequisite: 301. 302 ADULT NURSING II - CLINICAL (5) Clinical component of 302. Clinical Fee $10.00. 400 EPISODIC MENTAL HEALTH NURSING- LECTURE (1) Concepts related to nursing of adults with problems of adaptation resulting in psychopathology. Selected treatment modalities pre­ sented. Prerequisite: 302. · 400 NURSING OF ADULTS IN EMOTIONAL CRISIS­ CLINICAL (2) Application of theoretical content in an episodic patient care setting. Clinical Fee $10.00. 401 NURSING OF THE CHILD - LECTURE (3) A family-centered approach to growth and development from infancy through adolescence, including physical, psychosocial and cognitive theories of development. Consideration given to the role of the nurse in child health maintenance, adaptation to stress, and changes as it influences the child, family and parent­ ing. Concepts of mental health, nutrition and pharmacology applied. Prerequisite: 302. Offered both semesters. 401 NURSING OF THE CHILD - CLINICAL (4) Theory and clinical experience focus on the child in the commu­ nity and in acute and rehabilitative health care settings.
