GRADES Quality of course work is graded on the following scale: A indicates outstanding achievement; B, superior; C, average or satisfactory: D, the lowest passing grade; and F, Failure. A grade of pass, P, may be given in the event of acceptable work in certain limited classes. In the event of a pass, no grade point value is given to the student and the grade is not averaged in computing the over-all grade point average. A system of grade points is used to determine a student's general average or stand ing. Grade points are assigned to grades as follows: A, 4 grade points; B, 3 points; C, 2 points; D, 1 point; F, 0 points. A "WP" indicates a withdrawal from a course with a passing grade. Students must submit a written petition to the registrar's office with a recommendation from the instructor to withdraw from a course. Where unexcused absences have accrued, petition will be denied. A "WF" (withdrawal failure) is recorded in cases where the student is not doing passing work at the time of withdrawal. A "WF" will influence the grade point average the same as an "F." A "UW" indicates an unofficial withdrawal. Students who register but do not attend classes are automatically given the grade of "UW" which will influence the grade average the same as an F. The grade point average of a student is obtained by dividing the total number of units attempted at Biola College into the total number of grade points obtained at Biola College. To graduate, a student must have at least twice as many grade points as units in the total credit value of all courses undertaken by him, and a 2.00 grade point average in the major field. A student will be permitted to repeat a course in which he has received either an F or a D grade. The better grade will be the only one used in computing the cumulative grade point average at Biola College. The units will be counted only once. Grade reports will be issued to students from the Registrar's Office. Academic Standards While a grade of D is accepted as a passing grade in a single course, such a quality of work in general is at no point a criterion of progress from level to level. A mini mum average grade of C is necessary to graduate. Still higher minimums are required before admission to student teaching. Students who transfer units from other institutions must maintain an average grade of C in all work completed at Biola College as a requirement for graduation, and an average grade of C in all work presented for a degree, as well as all work in the major field. Academic Warning: A student whose semester average falls below C (2.0) but whose cumulative scholarship average in Biola College is 2.0 or higher will be placed on academic warning. Academic Probation: Any student whose cumulative scholarship average in Biola College falls below C (2.0) will be placed on academic probation. Probation indi cates a period of trial, and the student must achieve better than a 2.0 average the subsequent semester or face the possibility of being disqualified. A student is 30
