ance are required to submit a copy of the Parents' Confidential Statement (PCS) or the Student's Financial Statement (for independent students) to the College Scholarship Service, designating Biola College as one of the recipients. The PCS form may be obtained from a secondary school or from the College Scholarship Service, P.O. Box 176, Princeton, New Jersey, or P .O. Box 1025, Berkeley, California 94704 or from Biola College. This form should be filed as early as possible. THE DEADLINE FOR ALL APPLICATIONS FOR ALL TYPES OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE IS APRIL 1. Biola must have received copy of the PCS or SFS back from the College Scholarship Service, as well as Biola's Financial Aids application by April 1. Inasmuch as it may take from four to six weeks for the processed data to come from CSS, it is suggested that the form be sent to CSS by the middle of February. SCHOLARSHIPS Scholarships are awarded by the scholarship awards committee to students of high scholastic achievement. Such other criteria as character, personality, leader­ ship qualities, financial need, marked success in general high school or college activities, special service rendered on behalf of the college, and evidence of ability to pursue advanced studies successfully after graduation are also given careful consideration. Scholarship awards are made for a period of one year; they range in value from $300 to full tuition per year. Academic Scholarships Four kinds of academic scholarships are awarded: 1. ACADEMIC--$300. or $600. based on academic achievement and financial need. 3.2 Grade Point Average required. 2. HONOR-$1,000-no consideration given to financial status. 3.6 G.P.A. required. 3. MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD-(not available to incoming freshmen) $300 or $600-applicants must have performed some type of outstand­ ing service. G.P.A. must be between 2.5 and 3.2. 4. PRESIDENT'S AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT.-$1500-Appli­ cants must be going to be an advanced Junior or Senior and must have at least a 3.6 G.P.A. Departmental Scholarships Several individual departments offer scholarships to students. They are Art, Athletics, Communications, Music, and Nursing. If interested write, for example, to: Chairman, Art Department, Biola College. In addition to those offered by the College, there are others provided through the generosity of donors. These include the Les Barnett, Jean Bernard, Albert Kelly, McBride-Loe, and George Mayr scholarships . 40
