GUIDANCE

In the Department of Student Services, all functions are related to assisting the student develop to his fullest potential. It is recognized that education does not take place exclusively in the classroom; therefore, Biola attempts to aid the student by providing necessary services in areas other than aca demic. All matters relating to housing, health services, financial aid, graduate placement, discipline, advisement to student organizations and student publications, campus activities, new student orientation, counseling and testing, and research relating to students at Biola are the responsibility of the Office of the Dean of Students.

Friendship-a vital part of student life.

The objectives of the counseling program have been interrelated with the dis ciplinary system of the school. A minimum number of rules is combined with instruction in Christian principles of conduct for the purpose of encouraging students toward mature self-guidance. The college offers assistance in Guidance and Placement through the Counseling Center. The student is counseled and offered a wide variety of tests to assist him in dealing with problems in the educational and vocational areas and in personal and social problems related to these areas and to give guidance in career planning. Placement services include information relating to available jobs and opportunities to make contacts with potential employers in industry, government, Christian organizations, and the professions. 43
