Practical procedures used in training a student in touch, pedalling, general musicianship, memorization, proper practice habits, and sight­ reaching; survey of graded literature; planning of recitals. Alternate years, offered 1973-74. 426 ADVANCED PIANO SEMINAR (1, 1) History and mechanics of the piano; current developments in concert stage and record­ ing performance; guest lecturers who are highly competent in specific areas. May be taken one or two semesters. 427 VOICE PEDAGOGY (2) Teaching methods and practice in the teaching of voice; evaluation of vocal methods; observation in voice classes. Alternate years, offered 1973-74. 429 ORGAN PEDAGOGY (1) Procedures and materials used in teaching private organ; survey of graded literature. Alternate years, offered 1972-73. Music Ensembles Biola Chorale (1 unit, four hours weekly). Performance of choral works repre­ senting various styles and periods. Concert tour during Spring semester. Open to all students by audition. The Cantorei (1 unit, two hours weekly). The singing of choral compositions in various musical styles for high school, college, church, and community choirs. Chamber Singers (1 unit, three hours weekly). Performance of both traditional and contemporary choral compositions in several languages with instrumental accompaniment. Limited enrollment by audition. Oratorio Chorus (O units, two hours weekly). Performance of one outstanding oratorio each semester. Open to all students. The Other Side (0 units, three hours weekly). Performance of contemporary, folk, and sacred works. Tour during Spring Semester. Open to all students by audition. (Fulfills Christian Service assignment.) Chamber Music Ensemble (Vocal and Instrumental) (1 unit, two hours weekly). Designed for those interested in chamber literature for various instrumental and vocal ensemble combinations. String Ensemble (1 unit, two hours weekly). Performance of chamber works for various combinations of stringed instruments. Open to all by audition. 78
