The objective of the Bible Department is to train the student in the rever ent and effective use of the Bible for personal life, soul winning, and public ministry. To this end th ree me:hods of Bible stud y are employed. The syntheti c method of Bib le s tudy is designed to enable the student to obtain a broad vi ew of the contents of Scriptu re, seeing each book as a whole and its relation to the other books. The analytical method first considers a book as a unit in the li gh t of its authorship, purpose, and theme, and then outlin es the contents to show the relati onship of each part to the whole. The exposi tory method instructs the stud en t in setting forth 'in detail the fulln ess of the divine tru th. (4) A synthetic study of the first fi ve books of the Bible with special attention given to the Book of Genesis, the wilderness tabernacle, the offerings and worship in Leviticus, and th e great prophetic section in the latter part of Deuteronomy, as well as the drawing of practical les­ sons from Numbers . 102. SURVEY OF THE HISTORICAL, PROPHETIC, AND POETIC BOOKS OF THE OLD TESTAMENT. (4) A brief study of the historical books beginning with Joshua, empha­ sizing practical and spiritual truths. A cons ideration of the poetical books as a new literary form. A survey of the prophetic books and a study of the message of each. 103. PERSONAL EVANGELISM. (2) The various methods of persona l work. objecti ons most frequently encountered, and instructions for strengthening new converts in the faith. Emphasis upon Scripture memorization. 106. TYPOLOGY. (2) A study of Old Testament types , placing spec ial emphasis upon the Tabernacle, the offerings, and the feasts , emphasizing the spiritual lessons which can be appli ed to personal li fe . 108 . CHAPTER SUMMARY. (2) An introduction to one effective method of Bible study with applica­ tion of the text to vario us phases of the Christian life. 201. SURVEY OF THE GOSPELS.
