S T U D E N T A C T I V I T I E S attends the intercollegiate speech tournaments sponsored by this organization. In addition, students also represent Biola College in other major tournaments throughout the Western States. For the benefit of the entire student body, an intramural speech tournament is held in the spring of each year. CHRISTIAN SERVICE One of the distinguishing features of Biota College, consistently woven into its life for the past fifty years, is its emphasis on Chris tian Service. This distinction has born fruit in the lives · of its graduates providing them with an advantage of practical experi ence through a program of in-service training and Christian char acter development. Through personal interviews and counseling services established within the Christian Service Department, students are given op portunity to apply the truths and principles taught in their classes. At present our students serve in approximately 300 churches in Southern California. Other opportunities are provided in Gospel Teams, Church Music, Youth Directorships, Juvenile Hall, Hospi tals, Street Meetings, Released Time Classes, and Child Evan gelism Classes, etc. While enrolled at Biola the student is given the privilege of expressing his preferences in Christian Service; and, together with the full-time director of the department and his assistants, he is encouraged to accept the opportunity of service which best suits his desires and his abilities. Each student in Biola College is ex pected to devote a minimum of three hours and a maximum of six hours each week in his assigned area of work for which he receives one unit of non-academic credit each semester.
