CHRISTIAN EDUCATION Objective. The Christian Education courses seek to give the necessary undergraduate training for effective professional service in the educational program of the church and its related agencies in America and on the foreign field . The major in Christian education is designed to place emphasis upon thorough study of the Bible, an adequate background in lib eral arts (especially psychology), and Christian education. Courses in Christian education are planned to give theoretical training, practical experience, and technical skill. The Christian Education Department seeks to serve the local church in training leadership for its program of evangelism, education, and missions. Students completing a major in Christian Education will receive the certificate of the Evangelical Teacher Training Association. D epartment Majo1·: 30 units of which 24 must be upper divi sion including 12 units of Christian Education foundation COJJ.rses (201, 301, 302, and 401), 7 units of Psychology (301 and 310), 6 units age-group studies (303, 304, and 402), and field work of 2 or 6 units (optional program under advisement of the depart ment). A minor of 18 units must then be chosen from one of the fol lowing areas under departmental advice: Christian Education skills, music, psychology, sociology, physical education, or missions. A group minor may be arranged with department consent. Those preparing for seminary or graduate study shou ld include a language in their study. See the department for details.
103. EVANGELISM AND TEACHING. (2)
An explanation and demonstration of the methods of prepar ing and presenting Biblical material, including ways of lead ing the pupil to an intelligent acceptance of Christ as Saviour.
104. BIBLICAL BACKGROUNDS. (2)
A geographical survey of the ancient Bible world together with a study of customs and manners in Bible times.
201. SURVEY OF CHRISTIAN EDUCATION. (3)
Introduction to the field of Christian education to acquaint the student with its scope, functions, problems and vocational opportunities.
301. ORGANIZATION AND ADMINISTRATION. (3)
A functional study of the total educational program of the local church. ·
