EDUCATION-PHYSICAL EDUCATION / 51 Physical Education Major. The major consists of 36 semester units, 28 of which must be upper division, including skills activity courses. A candidate for the Physical Education major must dem­ onstrate acceptable physical qualifications and abilities. Included in the 36 unit requirement \Viii be 8 units of skills activity for men and 6 units for women. These units will be in addition to the four semester general education requirement. In addition, the follow­ ing courses must be completed: PE 300, 301, 302, 304, 305, 309 (W), 400, 404 (M), 406. Men will select any three from PE 310, 311, 312, 313, 314, 315. Women will take PE 320, 321, 322, 324. A supporting course for the major is Biological Science 301, (pre­ requisite: Biological Science 201). Not e: It is imperative that students desiring to secure a Bache­ lor's degree in the field of physical education plan their course with their major professor. Physical Education Minor. The minor consists of 20 units of which 12 must be upper division. The PE minor is designed for those students particularly interested in a second area of teaching competence, and for those interested in employing organized sports and games in camp and church programs. The following courses are suggested for the minor: PE 301, or (302), 304, 305, 400 and any two of the courses numbered 310-315 for men or 320-324 for women . Courses are open to both men and women except when other­ wise indicated by "men" or "women" following the course title.

100. PHYSICAL EDUCATION ORIENTATION. (1)

Required of all entering students. Orientation to the physical education program, physical fitness, and personal hygiene. Guidance will be given in the selection of additional activity classes.

102. BALANCE AND POSTURE (Women). (1)

Instruction in basic movement and balance, with emphasis in improving posture and physical fitness.

103. ARCHERY AND BADMINTON. (1)

Development of skill in archery with practice in both field and target shooting. Instruction in the rules, background, and techniques of playing badminton.

104. GOLF I. (1)

Fundamental techniques of golf, including rules, etiquette, background, and knowledge of playing. Fee $5.00.

105. BASKETBALL. (1)

Knowledge and development of skills, team play, strategy and rules. Basic officiating principles included.
